How to handle beard dandruff

Even the best beards can have dry skin hiding beneath.

When the skin beneath an impressive mane is malnourished, flecks and flakes can form due to a lack of moisture.

Even though facial hair acts as a defense against the sun, it can create a barrier to a necessary skincare regimen, which would otherwise keep the face nourished and smooth.

Beard dandruff is a sneaky ailment that can affect even the most veteran facial hair authorities, so it’s important for all bearded men to make a few small adjustments to their regularly scheduled regimen.

The first thing you should do when you spot flakeage is exfoliate with a beard brush The brush will tame strays, detangle knots, distribute oils, and exfoliate the skin beneath the beard.

Straight after brushing, jump into the shower and cleanse with a shampoo. Twice.

“To prevent dandruff, the hair must be thoroughly cleansed with shampoo twice, rinsing between each shampoo. The reason that you shampoo twice, is the first shampoo will remove any product and natural oils from the area being cleansed. The second shampoo thoroughly cleanses the area, Conditioner will then soften the beard/hair, strengthen and prolong the condition of growth. Lastly, it’s important to moisturize with a beard oil to hydrate the skin and soften the facial hair. I recommended FATS beard oil $34. 

Comb through the oil so it distributes to your entire mane. The oil should seep past the hair and coat the skin, thus fortifying it to prevent further flaking.

How to wash your hair properly

Brush out any product you may have in your hair before you wash it.

Use the right shampoo for your hair type, wet the hair then place a small 5 cent piece size amount of shampoo in the palm of your hair and rub evenly through the hair then scrub the hair, ensure the shampoo lathers up. If you use a lot of product you may need to wash the hair twice to ensure all the product is out, then rinse thoroughly to ensure all the shampoo is rinsed from the hair.

 If you are using conditioner use a 5-cent piece size amount and rub into the hair and rinse thoroughly, always make sure all shampoo and conditioner is rinsed out well.
